The Inter-American Court of Human Rights: Theory and Practice, Present and Future

Drawing on the case law of the Court, this volume analyses crucial developments over the years on both procedural and substantive issues before the Inter-American Court.

Yves Haeck, PhD (Ghent University) and Law Degree (Ghent University) is a Professor at the Human Rights Centre and the Department of European, Public and International Law of Ghent University, where he teaches ’International Human Rights Law’, ’Human Rights in Developing Countries’, ’International Moot Court Human Rights’ and ’Migration Law’. He is a former Associate Professor at the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM) of Utrecht University and a Visiting Professor at the University of Malta. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Inter-American & European Human Rights Journal and co-hosts the ’Blog on Top International Human Rights Courses, Traineeships & Jobs in Europe’. His research interests concern the European Convention on Human Rights and the European Court of Human Rights, with a comparative focus on the Inter-American System, topics on which he has published and lectured widely.

Oswaldo R. Ruiz-Chiriboga, Ph.D. researcher at the Human Rights Centre, Ghent University (Belgium); LLM in Human Rights and International and European Law, Utrecht University (Netherlands); LLM in International Criminal Law, Granada University (Spain); Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Argumentation, Alicante University (Spain); Postgraduate Diploma in Human Rights, Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar (Ecuador); Postgraduate Diploma in Human Rights and Democracy, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador. Former senior staff attorney of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and former senior staff attorney of the NGO Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL). His main research interests are International and Inter-American Human Rights Law, indigenous peoples rights, and Constitutional Law. He is the founder and administrator of the first blog on the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, reporting periodically on the Court’s case-law and academic articles related to the Court.

Clara Burbano-Herrera, PhD in Law (Ghent University), LL.M. in Fundamental Rights (University Carlos III of Madrid), Postgraduate Degree in Constitutional Law (National University of Colombia), and Master in Law (University of Los Andes) is a Fulbright Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the François-Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights (Harvard University) and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow of the Research Foundation Flanders at the Human Rights Centre of Ghent University, where she also teaches Human Rights in Developing Countries. Her research interests concern the Inter-American, the European and the African System of Human Rights, and especially the instrument of the interim measures, a topic on which she has published and lectured widely.
