Ludic and labyrinthine, fascinated by innocence while syntactically complex, See About advances a longstanding Franco-American conversation about innovative poetics, generative constraint, and hybrid forms. In eight chapters of eight poems, each an octave, Smirou's eccentric menagerie--from grand lion to tiny worm, and featuring the dodo--squints at animal subjectivity. A current Howard Foundation poetry fellow, Andrew Zawacki has published four poetry books, most recently Videotape. His earlier translation of Smirou, My Lorenzo, received a French Voices Grant, while his work on See About earned grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Centre National du Livre. A former fellow of the Slovenian Writers’ Association, Zawacki edited Afterwards: Slovenian Writing 1945-1995 and edited and co-translated Ales Debeljak’s Without Anesthesia: New and Selected Poems.
