Mary Burk has been walking the stairways of San Francisco since the 1980s. And since 2014, she’s been writing for Wilderness Press. Wilderness Press had the idea to combine Ben Pease’s knowledge of Bay Area trails with Mary’s love of city walking, and so they brought Ben and Mary together to update North Bay Trails as a team. Mary is also still walking the stairways of San Francisco, and finding new ones to climb all the time. Ben is still making our maps for San Francisco Stairways too. It’s a good combination of work and play, as Ben and Mary both enjoy sharing what beauty the Bay Area has to offer outdoors. When not out walking, Mary works as a software consultant, enjoys swimming and cooking, and shares her home with her husband, their two cats, and a 17-year-old catfish.
