According to experts in technoscientific prognosis, the current convergence of technologies on the nano scale will cause a radical transformation of our way of life in the coming decades, one that may touch human nature itself. The horizons of progress, well-being, and development opened by these technologies are certainly immense, yet proportional to the dangers and uncertainties that these technologies entail. If the 20th century has taught us anything, it's that it is difficult--if not impossible--to predict the consequences of technological innovations on societies, cultures, and the inhabitability of the planet. The texts in this book aim to foster critical debate and reflection about how the future of our societies is being designed, from questions of specific practices to general reflections about our ability to conceive of, predict, or design this future.
