★ Unit 14. suspect/wonder/doubt 懷疑 ★

到底哪裡不一樣？這三個字到底有哪些微妙的小差別？

suspect: 對某事抱持存疑、懷疑有什麼問題（通常接負面、不好的事）。例如說I suspect it’s a scam call. 就是指「我懷疑這是通詐騙電話」。

wonder: 想知道到底是怎麼回事、有疑問，但不一定是不好的事。後面通常接Wh-疑問詞引導的名詞子句。例如：I wonder why Jane likes cats so much.「我想知道珍為什麼這麼喜歡貓」。

doubt: 不相信、不覺得有這種事。例如說I doubt it’s a scam call. 就是「我不相信這是詐騙電話」。同一句只要換一個字，意思就完全相反，所以並不是都是「懷疑」就表示意思相同喔！

★Unit 58. decision/resolution/determination 決心 ★

到底哪裡不一樣？這三個字到底有哪些微妙的小差別？

decision: 即做出的「決定」。不見得是很堅定不移的決定，如果想改變也可以隨時改變。像是決定要吃義大利麵還是吃壽司，也是一種決定。

resolution: 下定決心做某一件事的「決心」。這個通常是極為重要的事，像是決心要考上大學、決心要變瘦或是決心要找出殺父仇人。決定吃壽司這種小事就不能用這個字。

determination: 堅定不移的決心。下定決心要做一件事是resolution，但接下來是否能堅定朝著這個目標前進就要靠determination了。
