. Taipei 101 & the Xinyi Business District
Robert：Wow, this is the world’s tallest building, Taipei 101, the new landmark in Taiwan!
Kitty: Yeah, isn’t it fascinating ? This tower includes an office area, an observatory, and a six-floor retail mall with shops, restaurants, a bookstore, and other attractions .
Robert: It’s awfully high. What if an earthquake hits?
Kitty: Don’t worry. The tower is designed to endure earthquakes above seven on the Richter scale, or even super typhoons! You can say that this building is the most technologically advanced skyscraper constructed to date!
Taike: Yeah, and I heard that the exterior of the building resembles a bamboo stalk and is studded with copper ingots , the currency used in ancient China by royalty . Look, there are eight of them, one every eighth floor.
Robert: Does the number “eight” symbolize good fortune in Chinese?
Taike: You’re pretty smart! Pretty much this entire building is fraught with symbolism of financial success!
Robert: I know, you see, Kitty can’t wait to spend her money! But this place is like every other American mall—there’s nothing special about it!
Kitty: Well, I’ll sure shop till I drop . Meanwhile, you guys can stroll around the Xinyi shopping area nearby. You can visit Warner Village Cinemas , the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department stores, the Taipei World Trade Center and so on. This area is definitely Taipei’s newest burgeoning business district!

羅波：哇，這就是世界最高樓、台灣新地標「台北101」！
高貴：是啊，很棒吧？這大樓包含了辦公區、觀景台、以及六層樓的購物商場，裡面有商店、餐廳、書店、以及其他好玩的東西。
羅波：可是它這麼高，地震來了怎麼辦？
高貴：別擔心，這高樓的設計可以抵擋芮氏七級以上的地震，甚至超級大颱風！這大樓可以說是利用目前最先進的科技所打造的！
邰克：對呀，聽說它的外觀一節一節的，形狀像竹子，而且還鑲有銅鑄錢，這是古代中國皇室所用的貨幣。你看，總共有八個銅鑄錢，每八層有一個。
羅波：中文的「八」代表「發發發」啊？
邰克：算你聰明，總而言之，這整棟樓就象徵著發大財啦！
羅波：是啊，高貴已經等不及去花錢啦！不過這裡面就像美國所有的購物商場一樣，沒什麼特別的！
高貴：嗯，我要血拼到虛脫。你們兩個可以去這附近的信義區逛逛，像是華納威秀影城、新光三越、世貿中心等等。這裡可是台北最新、發展最快的商業區呢！
