▌Clean Up the Fallen Leaves /Mei-yuk Lo Translated by Paul Lo
Using a metal rake
I clean up the unsightly botanic mess
since spring and summer is over
leaves from the cherry trees
and the big-leaf hydrangea
and the birch
and the small Japanese maples
let alone the large Canadian maple leaves
blown over from the neighbors
as well the oak leaves and other nameless leaves
who knows where they come from
They look like hands of varying sizes
or hands wearing gloves
I use the metal rake like a multi-fingered hand
to collect them all
I then carry them with my gloved hands
and give them a last handshake
Oh fallen leaves
I thank you all
for bearing witness to
a vigorous spring
and a flourishing summer
2001 late autumn, Canada
