白遼士這部結構龐大的歌劇作於1856-59年，劇本根據李斯特當時的戀人維特斯跟特公主根據埃阿斯記所作，據說公主用激將法告訴白遼士要是不能完成，將永遠不見他，兒這部歌劇過於龐大，歌劇院在當時無法上演，白遼士將其分成二部共五幕的歌劇。故事當然士寫出希臘軍留放大木馬，展開一連串的故事即愛情迴旋的情結。本片由庫貝利克1957年指揮，皇家高劇院的現場錄音，柯芬園管絃樂團演出，珍貴的錄音，龐大而豪華的歌劇！
