今年是英國大文豪莎士比亞逝世的四百週年，華納古典特別整理相關錄音重新發行。此套張的「莎士比亞之音」專輯是藉著莎士比亞之名，並且透過多位現代優異音樂家的演出，把這個遠在近五百年前的世界，生動地呈現在我們的耳朵裡。

英國女王伊麗莎白一世是都鐸王朝最後一位君主。她一生未婚，從1558年到1603年，她在位四十五年之間，把英國帶到英國歷史上的黃金時期，特別是在文化上。在伊麗莎白一世的主政下，英國的文學、詩歌、戲劇、繪畫、音樂有了前所見的蓬勃景象，出現了諸如莎士比亞、馬羅這樣的詩人與劇作家；也有威廉伯德、道藍、甘比翁、羅伯特強森、莫雷這樣的作曲家，創作出大量以魯特琴伴奏的歌曲小調兒、牧歌、舞曲、器樂合奏曲、合唱曲。這些歌曲的歌詞或許淫穢，或許不登大雅之堂，但是都代表著一個時期的活力、生命力與創造力。

這一套三張的「莎士比亞之音」專輯是藉著莎士比亞之名，並且透過多位現代優異音樂家，如：有「古樂女王」美譽的英國女高音柯克比以及她的魯特琴老搭檔羅雷、以演唱早期的牧歌與英國中世紀歌曲聞名的希利亞合唱團、美國魯特琴演奏家歐代特。的詮釋，帶出英國史上著名「伊麗莎白時期」繁華而且多樣化的音樂花朵，像是威廉伯德、道藍、有「莎士比亞的魯特琴手」之稱的羅伯特‧強森、與莎士比亞同時期的莫雷與多位佚名作曲家的作品，把這個遠在近五百年前的世界，生動地呈現在我們的耳朵裡。
