Identical twins Phylicia and Phoebe share a love for the same man. Reverend Gary Morgan, pastor of Freedom Inspiration, only has eyes for one twin, his high school sweetheart, Phylicia. She is the virtuous woman a minister needs by his side. But none of that stops Phoebe from masquerading as Phylicia and seducing Gary.
When he realizes his mistake, Gary informs Phoebe he will never love her. He marries Phylicia. Brokenhearted, Phoebe tries to live her life without him, but her jealousy consumes her, and she feels she has no choice but to leave town.
Twelve years later, Phoebe has returned to their hometown to be with their mother on her deathbed. She brings with her a big surprise: a daughter she conceived with Gary.
While Phylicia accepts the daughter into her home out of duty, her struggle to deal with the past builds a wall that blocks Gary from her heart. Phoebe, however, is filled with glee as she settles into life in her hometown. She happily observes as her sister's holy matrimony crumbles into a hurtful melodrama.
