Spirits of Wood Quay is a teen-age odyssey set in the Old City of Dublin in the year 2008. When Dennis O'Shea and Paul Hughes attempt to con old Michael Harrington out of a great treasure that is buried beneath his crumbling house on the banks of the River Liffey, they set off a train of events that catapults them into a terrifying world of Viking ships, warriors, slaves, and Gaelic chieftains. Not only do Dennis and Paul confront a past filled with plunder, war, and heroic feats, but they are forced to discover some disturbing truths about their own world of the present. Geraldine Cusack was born in the South Bronx. She graduated from Notre Dame College of Staten Island with a BA degree in Political Science and earned her M.ED in Education from La Salle University of Louisiana. She began her teaching career in New York City’s public school system and moved on to writing books for a bilingual (Miccosukee/English) educational project on Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation. She was Director of an International School in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile and developed Kiswahili textbooks for the elementary school system of Tanzania. She currently lives and teaches in Dublin’s inner-city schools. Published work: Children of the Far-Flung (2003) Winds the Road North (2005)
