Navy enlisted man Jason Beckman reluctantly agrees to stand as best man for his Division Officer at a high society wedding. Joyce, his last minute accommodation date, changes from tolerating the imposition to being charmed by the unaffected Jason. He is smitten with her, while she is cool to the idea of forming any type of relationship even though they spend the following week together at her Boston apartment. Jason goes to sea and at a port of call in St.Croix he encounters a second wealthy young lady who is very much interested in developing a relationship with the sailor. Charles Petterson served nine years in the U.S. Navy. Following 22 months of training he reported to USS Nathanael Greene Blue Crew. After completing three patrols and becoming qualified in submarines (SS) he transferred to USS Lapon Pre-Commissioning Unit. During four years Lapon received two Meritorious Unit Citations and a Presidential Unit Citation. The author was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Navy Expeditionary Medal. He transferred from Lapon to USS Bluefish for the remainder of his enlistment. The author is president of USS Lapon Association and active in United States Submarine Veterans Marlin Base. He also is active with Iowa Military Veterans Band. The author lives with his wife, Lynn, in Western Iowa.
