Julien Chaisse is Professor at City University of Hong Kong, School of Law. He is an award-winning scholar of international law with a special focus on the regulation and development of economic globalization. His teaching and research include international trade/investment law, international taxation, law of natural resources, and Internet law. Prior to joining CUHK in 2009, Dr. Chaisse was a senior research fellow at the World Trade Institute (Switzerland). He also held an appointment as lecturer at elite school Sciences Po Aix (France) and served as a diplomat at the Embassy of France in New Delhi (India). Dr. Chaisse has published numerous well-regarded and widely-cited books and articles, such as "China’s International Investment Strategy," Oxford University Press (2019); "The Regulation of Global Water Services Market," Cambridge University Press (2017); "International Economic Law and Governance," Oxford University Press (2016); "Navigating the Expanding Universe of International Treaties on Foreign Investment," Journal of International Economic Law (2015); "Maintaining the WTO’s Supremacy in the International Trade Order," Journal of International Economic Law (2013); and "Promises and Pitfalls of the European Union Policy on Foreign Investment," Journal of International Economic Law (2012). Dr. Chaisse is an experienced arbitrator and a sought-after consultant/expert to international organizations, governments, multinational law firms, and private investors. Dr. Chaisse is also an active member of the World Economic Forum ("Global Future Council on International Trade and Investment" and "Tax and Globalization Working Group"). Dr. Chaisse is an advisor & partner to the United Nations ARTNET on FDI, member of the Academic Forum on ISDS, and Advisory board member of the Asian Academy of International Law (AAIL).
Leïla Choukroune is Professor of International Law and Director of the University of Portsmouth Research and Innovation Theme in Democratic Citizenship. Her research focuses on the interactions between international trade and investment law, human rights, development studies, jurisprudence and social theory. It is also applied to emerging countries, India, China and East Africa in particular. Dr. Choukroune has published numerous scientific articles, book chapters and special issues in English, French, Spanish or Chinese and authored 6 books, including recently, "Judging the State in International Trade and Investment Law" (Springer, 2016), and "Indian Modernities" (2017). She is the Editor of the Springer book series International Law and the Global South, and Member of the Editorial Boards of the leading peer reviewed Journals China Perspectives and Perspectives Chinoises.
Sufian Jusoh is the Deputy Director and a Senior Fellow at the Institute of Malaysia and International Studies, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Dr. Jusoh has been a consultant to many countries and international organisations such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, ASEAN, the World Trade Organisation and the World Intellectual Property Organisation. He plays a key role in the reform of the investment laws in Myanmar, Timor Leste, Laos and the Federated States of Micronesia. Dr. Jusoh holds an LL.B from Cardiff Law School, an LL.M from University College London and a PhD in Law from University of Bern, Switzerland. He is the co-author of the book "The ASEAN Comprehensive Investment Agreement The Regionalisation of Laws and Policy on Foreign Investment" (Elgar, 2016).
