Dr. Fabio Laurindo da Silva is an evolutionary biologist at the University of São Paulo. He received his Ph.D. from the University of São Carlos (Brazil) in 2012. His research interests lie in the biogeography and systematics of aquatic insects and he is enthusiastic to comprehend how large-scale biodiversity patterns develop over time. Fabio has authored numerous peer reviewed scientific publications on chironomids and has been on the Editorial Board of the Journal Checklist and Zookeys. At the University of São Paulo, Fabio has been involved in teaching and learning strategies, and is one of the professors responsible for a course on Historical Biogeography.
Associate Professor Ladislav Hamerlik is a limnologist and palaeolimnologist at Matej Bel University, Slovakia. Recently he is a Polonez fellow (funded by Marie-Curie grant) at the Institute of Geological Sciences, Polish Academy of Sciences. His main interest is chironomid assemblages as indicators of present and past environmental changes. He is recently especially interested chironomid communities of neglected areas of the word (from the taxonomical and ecological point of view), such as Central America, where he tries to document the diversity and taxonomic composition of the chironomid assemblages, and assign ecological requirements to taxa, so they could be used for ecological assessment in the future.
