Paul Martin is a Japanese sword expert based in Tokyo. He is a former curator in the Department of Japanese Antiquities at the British Museum and is a sword specialist recognized by the Japanese government. He is currently a trustee for the Nihonto Bunka Shinko Kyokai Public Foundation promoting Japanese sword culture worldwide and a regular columnist for the Japan Forward website.

Alexander Bennett is Professor of Japanese history, martial arts and Budo theory at Kansai University. He co-founded and publishes Kendo World, the first English-language journal dedicated to Kendo. He holds black belts in several martial arts--Kendo Kyoshi 7-dan, Iaido 5-dan, and Naginata 5-dan.
