How to Say Good Things About Others
Part A: A Natural Talent
Simon and Kelly just finished their math class.
(Simon = S ; Kelly = K)
S: You are a genius at math! You answered all those questions right and so fast.
K: I’m not a genius, but I do have a head for numbers.
S: That’s so great! I wish for that talent sometimes. It would make my parents so happy.
K: But you’re really good at languages. Don’t they know that?
S: Sure they do, but they don’t care about that. They want me to be an engineer.
K: That’s too bad. You are very talented.
S: That’s nice of you to say, thanks.
K: You’re very welcome.
Part B: A Good Role Model
Cole and Megan are by a playground.
(Megan = M ; Cole = C)
M: The camp kids love you. You’re really good with them.
C: Thanks. You’re not so bad yourself.
M: Maybe, but they hang on your every word. How do you get them to do that?
C: I don’t know. I just treat them with respect, and they do the same to me.
M: That’s cool! I’m an adult, and some people don’t even treat me like that.
C: Maybe they didn’t have a good role model to show them the way.
M: Yeah. The camp kids are lucky. They have you.
C: You’re too kind.
Part B:
Part C: A Job Well Done
Quinn and Angel are praising one another.
(Quinn = Q ; Angel = A)
Q: Great job! Your last shot won us the game.
A: Thanks. You had a lot of excellent shots, too.
Q: You didn’t have to say that, but thank you.
A: Sure. I’m just so happy right now. All our practice1 really paid off.
Q: Yeah, I wanted to take it easy, but you wouldn’t let me. Also, you helped me fix my weak areas.
A: You weren’t that weak. You just needed to fix your swing.
Q: Well, your advice really helped. So, thanks again.
A: You don’t need to thank me. We did it together.
Part C:
