A 21 St -Century Retrospective View about Edgar Allan Poe- Una Mirada Retrospectiva Sobre Edgar Allan Poe Desde El Siglo XXI

Beyond speculation, analysis and evaluation of different hypotheses, this collection of essays is an attempt to provide innovative and multidisciplinary perspectives from the current point of view of our newly born 21st century about Edgar Allan Poe's life and works, keeping also in mind the memory of his recent bicentennial celebration (1809-1849).
Among the contributions, different fields of arts such as cinema, literature and science turn this work into an interdisciplinary debate in which the authors disclose and introduce old and new topics, clarify concepts and positions, and above all, testify the huge impact and indelible influence that Poe has permanently exerted on literature, arts and culture worldwide.
The contributions differ according to their diverse approaches, some of them presenting empirical studies, others analyzing Poe's writings not only from a linguistic, sociological or literary point of view, but also showing their close relationship with film, musicology, style and rhetoric.
M s all de la especulaci n, el an lisis y la evaluaci n de diversas hip tesis, este volumen de ensayos constituye un esfuerzo por presentar, desde la actualidad de nuestro reci n estrenado siglo XXI, puntos de vista novedosos y multidisciplinares sobre la vida y la obra de Edgar Allan Poe, sin olvidar la reciente celebraci n de su bicentenario (1809-1849).
Los diferentes campos de estudio de las artes como el cine o la literatura, o tambi n la ciencia, convierten este trabajo en un debate interdisciplinar en el que los autores desvelan antiguos temas e introducen nuevas cuestiones, clarifican conceptos y posiciones y, por encima de todo, ofrecen un vivo testimonio sobre el enorme impacto y la huella indeleble que Poe ha dejado en las literaturas, las artes y la cultura alrededor del mundo.
Los ensayos difieren seg n sus distintos acercamientos, algunos de ellos presentando estudios emp ricos, otros analizando las obras de Poe no s lo desde puntos de vista ling sticos, sociol gicos o literarios, sino tambi n demostrando sus m s ntimas relaciones con el cine, la musicolog a, la estil stica y la ret rica.

Eusebio V. Llácer Llorca has published several works on Poe’s short stories and his research interests cover Literatures, Linguistics and Translation. Currently, he teaches North American Literature and Translation in the English and German Philology Department at the Universitat de València.
Ma Amparo Olivares Pardo has published several works on cognitive linguistics, metaphor and text linguistics. Currently, she teaches Discourse Analysis and Translation in the Master programme «Humanistic and Creative Translation» in the French and Italian Department at the Universitat de València.
Nicolás Estévez Fuertes has published several articles on Poe’s literary works and the reception of other outstanding North American writers in the Spanish daily press and journals during the post-war years. Nowadays, he teaches Reading and Writing Academic Essays in the English and German Philology Department at the Universitat de València.
Eusebio V. Llácer Llorca ha publicado trabajos sobre los relatos breves de Poe y su interés investigador va de la literatura a la lingüística, pasando por la traducción. En la actualidad imparte docencia en literatura norteamericana y traducción en el Departamento de Filología Inglesa y Alemana de la Universitat de València.
Ma Amparo Olivares Pardo ha publicado trabajos sobre lingüística cognitiva, metáfora y lingüística textual. Actualmente imparte docencia en análisis del discurso y traducción en el programa de Máster «Traducción humanística y creativa», dentro del Departamento de Filología Francesa e Italiana de la Universitat de València.
Nicolás Estévez Fuertes ha publicado artículos sobre la obra de Poe y la recepción de éste y otros notables autores norteamericanos en la prensa diaria y las revistas españolas durante los años de la posguerra. En la actualidad imparte docencia en lectura y redacción de trabajos académicos en el Departamento de Filología Inglesa y Alemana de la Universitat de València.
