Stuart Lane has been Professor of Geomorphology at the University of Lausanne since February 2011. He is a geographer with some training in civil engineering. He has won many prizes for his research, concerned with modelling and remote sensing of river flow, sediment and solute transport, river ecology and floods. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Earth Surface Processes and Landforms.

Formally a Post Doctorate Researcher at the IHP-HELP Centre for Water Law, Policy and Science at the University of Dundee (under the auspices of UNESCO), his work focuses on the prevailing knowledges and conceptualisations that inform and contest water, flood and risk management in both the global North and South.
