Atlas of Chinese Native Orchids

This book updates taxonomy information of orchids in China. China is one of the countries with the richest biodiversity. In China, all five subfamilies of Orchidaceae are represented, about 1600 orchid species in 198 genera. All orchids are rare and endangered plants. They are among the flagships for biological conservation, listed in CITES appendix I or II. This book provided an updated classification system of Orchidaceae with newly recorded and published species in China and new combinations. 1026 species in 157 genera of native species in China are included, about half of which are newly recorded or published species in China in the last two decades. Indexes to genera and species are included. For each species, one to four photos, most of which were taken by the authors, are utilized to illustrate habitats, morphological characters, and phenology. Furthermore, the geographic distribution of them also demonstrated in a map. This book can be used as a reference for researchers working on Orchidaceae, as well as practitioners in the horticulture community.

Dr. Xiaohua Jin is Professor of State Key Lab of Systematic and Evolutionary Botany, Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He obtained his PhD in 2003 and had a postdoctoral program from 2003 to2005 in Kunming Institute of Botany, CAS. Since 2005, he has been working in the Institute of Botany, CAS as Assistant Professor and promoted to Associate Professor in 2009, to Professor in 2020. His current research projects include: (1). Orchids of Pan-Himalayan regions; (2). Taxonomic revision of Platanthera from Asia; (3). Plant Biodiversity of Northern Myanmar; (4). Orchid phylogenomics. He published about 58 articles.

Jianwu Li is Director of Herbarium (HITBC) of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Mr. Li obtained his bachelor’s degree from Yunnan University China and majored in plant survey and taxonomy of tropical flora, especially in Orchidaceae. He chaired two projects and participated in 4 projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China. He also co-authored about 30 publications and described 6 new species.

Deping Ye is Senior technician in Pu’er administration of forestry and grassland, Yunnan Province. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from South Forestry University, China. Mr. Ye has great interests in plant survey and taxonomy of tropical flora, especially in orchids. He published more than 10 papers, including 1 new genus, 5 new species of Orchidaceae. He also co-authored 3 Orchid books in Chinese, ＂The Wild Orchids in Yunnan＂, ＂A Photographic Guide to 400 Orchid Species＂, and ＂Atlas of Native Orchids in China＂.
