Dr. Markus Hohenfellner is Professor of Urology and Chair of The Department of Urology of the University of Heidelberg, Medical School, Germany. He obtained his medical degree at the Leopold-Franzens University, Innsbruck, Austria and at the University of Oxford, Oxford, UK.
The scientific and clinical focus of Markus Hohenfellner is urologic oncology and tumor surgery, minimally invasive urology including robotics and continent reconstruction of the lower urinary tract. The Department of Urology Heidelberg covers the entire spectrum of modern urology including prevention, early detection, ultraradical tumor surgery, minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery (Da Vinci) lower urinary tract dysfunction, pediatric urology, stone therapy and andrology. In the translational perspective, the Department of Urology Heidelberg has implemented a section of Molecular Urooncology, directed by Prof. Stefan Duensing. It is a renowned research institution on its own as well as a critical gateway to relevant basic science institutions and working groups. Markus Hohenfellner is a member of several national and international urological societies. He is chairman of the EAU Working Group on Urologic Trauma and the responsible representative of the German Urological Association to establish guidelines on Urologic Trauma. He is author/co-author of numerous scientific publications and book chapters, as well as co-editor of the texts "Emergencies in Urology", "Aktuelles aus Klinik und Praxis der Urologie", "Reconstructive Surgery of the Lower Urinary Tract in Children". In 2015 he introduced "Semi-Live" as a new format to communicate surgical science. The aim is to promote international, scientific exchange and the transfer of urological-surgical knowledge.
Dr. Richard Santucci is an expert in Reconstructive Urology. He obtained his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, USA and completed his residency at University of Washington Medical Center, Seattle, WA. He’s one of the few fellowship-trained Reconstructive Urologists in the USA. Richard Santucci spent 18 years as one of the nation’s premier academic reconstructive urologist in the Detroit Medical Center and Clinical Professor in Michigan State College of Medicine Harper, USA. In 2018 he joined the practice of Dr. Curtis Crane, working out of the Austin location of the Crane Center for Transgender Surgery. Dr. Santucci’s deep experience with complex genitourinary surgery uniquely positions him to excel at the most technically challenging gender affirming procedures, such as Phalloplasty and Vaginoplasty.
Dr. Santucci is the author of more than 100 scientific articles, abstracts and book chapters, and has served on the editorial boards of more than twelve journals. He is the co-editor of the texts Emergencies in Urology, The Atlas of Urethroplasty, and Penile Reconstructive Surgery. He is also the founding Editor-in-Chief of the online Open-Access Urology journal, Advances in Urology. Dr. Santucci regularly presents at national and international conferences, and has trained other urologists in complex urethral reconstruction procedures. In fact, he trained both Dr. Curtis Crane and Dr. Mang Chen in the art of Reconstructive Urology.
